I’ve tried these steps and have the same problem as mixx9876. I have
Elements 8.0 and can not find desaturation under Image>Adjustments. When I
simply convert it to black and white, I don’t get a white screen, its is
colored. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong.

Well, definitely not in seconds, what if i need to do this to 100 photos?
Better just use some noobish soft that does all this automatically or
better yet a ready to use action.
